First cavity... Does it really hurt getting it filled?!

Question: First cavity... Does it really hurt getting it filled?
I'm mostly scared about the Novocaine shot... I hear that REALLY hurts because they stick it way into your gums and the needle is kind of big... I don't mind vaccination shots given by nurses, so how much more pain will it be then those?

On a scale from 1-10, how bad does the NOVOCAINE SHOT feel
Same thing... 1-10 on overall how much getting the filling is

1 being - doesn't hurt at all
10 being - it hurts REALLY badly!

I'm only 13 and am really nercous. I have the dentist tomorrow afternoon.

Hello
the injection does not really hurt. The injection stings for about 3-4 seconds and then it is over . I would say the pain level is about 4 out of 10 and it is over so fast it is totally ok. Do not worry about 3 seconds of slight pain. Nip your forearm for 4 seconds and that is the worst it will be. Once you have had the injection you go totally numb and you will not have any pain having a filling. They simply drill out the decay in the tooth( you will just feel vibrations) and then fill the tooth( you will just feel pressure and pushing) and that is it. So having the actual filling is 0 out of 10. No pain at all. Once the injection wears off your gum and tooth may be slightly sore( day or two) but totally bearable again. Having a filling is normally fast and easy, so do not worry about it at all. It will be over before you know it.

Hope that helps and you get on ok( sure you will)

Yes, the novocaine shot hurts some, but it doesn't last very long. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 5, but a brief 5. What I can't stand about getting fillings is the sound the drill makes as they remove the bad parts of the tooth. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give that sound a 9. However, on the overall experience I think I'd go with a 6. It doesn't last very long.

personal experience

probably a 3. Around a pinch.
Then the filling a 1. It is not painful, just weird. Lots of vibration. You'll do fine.

12 fillings

I would say 1. The only discomfort is from the local anaesthesia injection. All you will feel from the drilling is vibration.

its 5 but you can make it 3 if u ask the nurse to put topical anesthesia like ledocane ointment or spray on the spot before the injection

It doesn't hurt At all. You'll only feel a little pinch . But by the time you remember I told you this.. It's pretty much over

Expirrence

no the needle they put in your gums don't hurt it also did not help with the pain when they pulled my tooth out a few weeks ago

I would like to tell you that it won't hurt at all but that would be lying to you and I certainly don't want to do that.

I would rate it between a 2 to a 9. Sorry but that has been my experience.

I have had novocaine shots that I hardly felt at all and others that it seemed liked I still felt it days later.

The novocaine shot(s) just depend on the person giving it to you. Each person giving it to you may give you a relatively painless shot. Their experience should make a difference but it doesn't always work that way.

I have received novocaine shots from a student at a dental school and hardly felt it at all and I've gotten them in a dental office and had it hurt like crazy. Sometimes it will be almost painless and the next time you get a shot from the same person, it could hurt for days later. It just seems to be the luck of the draw.

If you go to get your tooth filled and it's your first cavity and you are already 13 years old, it shows me that you have already done a fantastic job of caring for your teeth.

If you go to your dentist and you are uptight and nervous, the chances of having the novocaine shot hurt is greater than if you are relaxed and anticipating the dentist to rid you of a cavity that if you don't get it taken care of properly, the problem will escalate to the point that you will no longer be able to get that particular cavity filled and the tooth may have to be pulled.

Relax and it will be over before you know it and you will still have a beautiful smile.

Good luck.

Even though I have been assemblying and repairing computers for 35+ years, I have been raising and loving children, grandchildren and now I have two great-grandchildren and I love each of them and always try to care for their boo-boos.
