Dental work while pregnant?!

Question: Dental work while pregnant?
I've gone to the dentist for the first time in about a decade (insurance). They told me that I need to have a filling, but I should consider myself very lucky for not going to the dentist for so long. I was also told to give my OB a heads up and ask if it was alright if I had it filled. They also told me that my wisdom teeth look like death and want me back in shortly after the baby is born to take them out. So I was wondering why does my OB have to know? Is it just the possible risk of infection? The dentist also told me I wasn't to recieve any flouride or to use any. Does anyone know why this is? Thanks for your help!

Some of the anesthesia used isn't safe for you while you are pregnant. Our office requires a medical consult from your OB. I would speak with your dentist ahead of time to find out what type of anesthesia they will put you on (lidocaine, polocaine, septocaine, novocain) and speak with your OB which is best for them to use on you while your pregnant for your fillings. As far as the fluoride goes, I would find out why they are suggesting you not use any. if you over the age of 17 the dentist usually won't give you fluoride anymore but again, its probably for the safety of the baby.
