Does getting teeth pulled change the duration of braces?!

Question: Does getting teeth pulled change the duration of braces?
Today I went to the orthodontist for a consultation. I got molded and took pics and xrays. He told me I was going to have to get some teeth pulled. :( ugh. So, does getting teeth pulled change the duration of braces? Would I have them on longer? I just have an overbite, if that helps. And my next appt. is April 22nd. What will they do on that appt.? I think I have to go to 2 more.

Answers:

It really depends on what the dentist says and how fast your teeth move. I had 4 teeth pulled out and I had my braces for 2 and 1/2 years. Just make sure you go to every appointment and take good care of your braces. That way you don't have to add more time on having your braces. You'll get used to them and you won't notice how long you'll have them. In the end you'll like the results.Hope this helped and good luck.

Yes, it will shorten treatment time but at the expense of making your facial profile look worse. Bicuspid extractions will do the following to you -
1) make your mouth smaller than normal;
2) make the nose and chin more prominent and the area around the mouth sunken in (aka dished-in or concave profile);
3) make the upper back teeth not line up properly with the lower back teeth;
4) make the lower jaw bite too far back;
5) have been shown to cause TMJ problems, especially in females.

Google "TMJ disorders" to see what you will be in for...

It shouldnt, they just need to pull the teeth so that your other teeth have room to move so that you can get all of your teeth aligned, just go with the flow, they will be off soon

Tooth is pulled, to provide space for rest of the teeth to get aligned or retract.
