If you have all your teeth out when can you get false ones put in?!

Question: If you have all your teeth out when can you get false ones put in?
My friend is having all his teeth taken out soon, but he is getting different information on when to have false teeth put in. One dentist said you can have them straight away, and another dentist said 3 months. which is correct. Just seem strange that there is a difference of 3 months.

Answers:

both can be done, the only difference is the condition of your friends health & what teeth are left in his mouth.
when teeth are extracted , the bony socket surrounding the now extracted teeth, begins to resorb, so the bone wont be as think as in one who still has his teeth
to have false teeth (called dentures) right away after extraction, its called immediate denture, basically if you want to preserve more bone (will slow down the resorption), want to preserve esthetic's (for psychological reasons) or want to preserve the lower face height (which is maintained by teeth). depending on your friends health, his gum health amount of bone remaining & what teeth you he still has, a dentist might go for an immediate denture. however its annoying for the patient, especially at first, the denture will need frequent relining, & eventually will have to make new ones done when the bone reaches stable condition.
to get dentures after months, the bone will resorb on a fast rate the first 4-6 months, then stabilizes , this will be a good time for getting new dentures, if the patient's condition isn't indicated for immediate (or any other types of dentures)
so that's the difference, it will depend on your friends condition & preference to choose the best treatment for him.
tell your friend to ask the dentist for more information, & why would he/she prefer one type over the other in your friends case.you can look at the following link to know more about dentures & types, written in simple language fro the patients to understand.

You can have teeth pulled and a denture inserted immediately but this is not the best way to do it because as the gums heal, the tissues will shrink and create gaps under the denture over time. If this procedure is done, a reline is usually advised after a year to fill in all the gaps to make the denture fit tighter. The longer the wait after teeth are extracted, the better the denture fit will be. I usually recommend a minimum of 1 month to allow for healing and maximum shrinkage to take place before taking impressions for a new denture. Two months would be even better but most people would rather not go that long without any teeth. The good thing about waiting is it will allow the gums to toughen up.

you can get them straight away. I just got mine less than a year ago and a mold was made before my teeth were pulled and I could have waited until the dentures were back to have my teeth pulled and dentures put in same day. I opted to have them pulled the same day and wait 3 days and go back to get dentures.

if all teeth rae being removed then there is a period where gums need to heal and stop bleeding . ( not straight away and more like around a week at least.) the gums will shrink fairly rapidly at first as holes where teeth were heal over etc. this can take much longer and is more like the three month target when they wil be approx stable and able to accept false teeth better.

what age is ur friend and why is he getting all of his teeth out? the reason he said 3 months was to make sure the gums has healed up and so that when he wears the false ones they dont hurt him
