What does it mean getting your braces on the bottom teeth first, instead of the !

Question: What does it mean getting your braces on the bottom teeth first, instead of the top teeth?
Im getting that and a retainer and i want to know why?? Thanks!!

Answers:

That means that your bite/teeth aligning has to be done first on the bottom teeth before braces on your top teeth can be put on.

This was kind of like me, except the other way around. My back molars were constantly hitting each other and when I had braces on both top and bottom, the bracket on my bottom molar went off twice during my treatment process because my bite just wasn't ready to have both top and bottom braces on at the same time at the back. Then the ortho just cut the wire at the back and waited until the top teeth shifted a little and then put the bracket on the bottom teeth on.

Oh yes and retainers are to maintain the position of your teeth, are you getting the retainer for your top teeth or is it after your braces for your bottom? You might only need a minor adjustment on the top?

Had braces for a year and a half. Getting them off in three weeks!
