If dentist isn't available. Can ER help with pain?!

Question: If dentist isn't available. Can ER help with pain?
I have oral surgery and all my bottom teeth extracted Tuesday. My oral surgeon is 100 mi away. I have something hard sticking out of the back of the area they ripped the teeth out, it's agony to try and put the denture over it. I've been managing to curb the pain with medications the dentist gave me but they last till tomorrow and I have no way to get back to my dentist right now. This is the sharpest most citing pain I've ever felt and I feel I could pass out from it. Will the ER help me knowing I'm in pain? ( I have 2 bid swollen black and blue bruises on my jaw and one look in my mouth cuts and stitched and the BUMP hurts so BAD!! )says I'm not lying about the pain. I have insurance, not state insurance, but blue cross and shield Do you think the ER would help me. I'm too far away from any other help! What can my dentist do from 100 mi away..

The emergency room should be able to help control the pain, depending on the size of the hospital, they may have an oral surgeon or dentist on call. Could you also look into seeing a dentist local to you for emergency treatment?

It sounds like you have a bone chip or the edge of the extraction site has been uncovered. For the short term try rinsing gently with warm salt water several times a day. Also use ice packs- 20 minutes on, 20 off and an over the counter pain relief product.

You may also have a dry socket which I hear can be very painful.

have dentures

You can go to the ER for the pain but what's most likely happening is a bone spur. After an extraction small tooth fragments or fragments from your jaw bone can chip and become stuck under the gum. They are very painful but will eventually work themselves out. Once this happens you will be shocked @ how tiny they are. If it's sever enough & it is a bone spur, they can make a tiny cut into ur gum tissue and remove it.

Yes. Most definitely go to your ER. They'll be able to help with pain management. Good luck and I hope the pain and swelling go away soon x

yes go to the ER
