Answers:

1. Yes, you probably will... most people get lisps with retainers too.
2. Its caused by having something at the roof of your mouth, kinda like if you get peanut butter stuck at the roof of your mouth. It lasts for a few weeks, i think.
3. Your teeth wont necessarily hurt, but they will be sore. If you take some advil you should be fine, and this will go away in a few days.
4. Not everyone has to get rubber bands, it depends on your bite and how crooked your teeth are. But, if you do get them MAKE SURE YOU WEAR THEM ALL THE TIME. if you dont you will extend the time that you need braces, they can be annoying but after a while you dont even realize your wearing them.
5. Most people have them for 1-2 years.
6. You can eat anything. However, there are a list of things [such as corn on the cob, apples on the core, sticky foods] that your ortho will warn you about eating, because if you arent careful these can end up breaking parts on your braces.
7. Hot or cold foods do no effect braces in anyway
8. I think darker colors, like dark blue and green and colors like that make your teeth look whiter. dont get yellow or orange or pastel colors cause they can make your teeth looks yellow, thats why i have never gotten any of those.

i have braces and have had them for about 2 years now, im getting towards the end of having them!!!!

1 - you might get a lisp. i didnt however some of my friends did
2 - the lisp is caused by you having something on your teeth. the lisp wears off after about 3 weeks
3 -they might. it depends on how much you feel pain. i was fine but some of my frinds really were not
4 -yes probably towards the end of your braces wearing time
5 - you will have them for between 1 year to 3 years depending on how big the problem is(i had mine for 1 year and 8 months)
6 - yu can eat most foods however dont eat chewey stuff eg. toffee wham bars
7 - no
8 - it doesnt really matter what colours you have, you cant really see the whiteness anyway behind the meatal. however when you get your braces off your teeth is whiter than ever

hope this helps

my experience

I got an expanded when I got braces a few years ago and I didn't get a lisp. Your teeth might hurt from two days-weeks. I ate bread, mashed potatos and ice cream for four days. You're not supposed to eat popcorn, gum, hard candy, etc. Hot/cold foods never affected my braces and I usually ate whatever I wanted. I had my braces for a year and a half, but how long you have them depends on your condition. You might get rubber bands, depends on your teeth.

When I had my expander I never noticed a lisp. You're teeth will hurt but it should not be terrible - often taking Tylenol or Advil and eating soft foods for a few days is sufficient for controlling pain. Having rubber bands really depends on what problems are being corrected. I had rubber bands for several months but only because I had issues with my jaw. The whole process of braces for me took close to 5 years from start to finish but like I said, I had some issues with my jaw so that made it take longer. There are several foods you should avoid such as gum, popcorn, candy - basically anything that could get stuck and damage the braces or your teeth. I never had a problem with hot or cold but I also didn't have a problem with sensitivity then. As for colors, I wouldn't know... I stuck with my favorite 4 colors for the most part. I think as long as you are diligent to brush your teeth they will stay white on their own. Plus, you won't end up with stains on your teeth once the braces come off.

The most important thing to remember is follow all of the instructions your orthodontist gives you. There is a reason they tell you to brush your teeth, stay away from certain foods, wear the necessary appliances, etc. My cousins also had braces and they did NOT follow the instructions and they paid the price - their results weren't that good. Best of luck!
