Hello
it could be a number of things. Your gum maybe infected or you may have an abscess or a cracked tooth or you may need a filling. Do you floss everyday? The pain maybe caused by swollen gums around the tooth. Floss every day if you do not already to remove plaque and food from the teeth and gums. I have had a sore tooth before and thought it was decay but it was my gum instead. It got better with flossing once a day after about 4 days. If you have a crack in your tooth that would cause pain when pushing down on the tooth as when you push down the crack will open up causing pain. If the nerve is inflamed that would cause pain too when pushing down( but normally there would be pain other times too such as with hot and cold liquids, foods and a throbbing pain on and off).

Try rinsing your mouth out with warm salt water 4 times a day and flossing every day just before bed and see if that helps. If it does not feel better in 4-5 days you will need to see your dentist who will look at the tooth and may x ray it to find out what is wrong. So many things cause tooth pain it is hard to say on the internet. But I am thinking either a infected gum or a small cavity or a crack in the tooth. But I am just giving a guess. I have had pain in my upper teeth in the past which was caused by a sinus infection.

Hope it is nothing serious and gets better soon.

Only your dentist can tell. You can have a small cavity without much pain and can get it filled easily. Wait and you'll feel like your head is going to explode and the filling will be much bigger.

I would say you might have one. Take a tooth pick and stick it in the tooth and if it sticks it is a cavity perhaps. If not then you probably don't have one.
Good luck !

i would have to see it.
