Expanders with braces or no?!

Question: Expanders with braces or no?
Im getting my expanders in a week or so and I see people with braces and expanders so would I get braces and an expander? Or Just get an expander and get braces after the expander is off? Or does it depend on my orthodontist???

Answers:

When you say expander do you mean a mini expander which looks like a spring that goes across the top of your mouth and there is a little bult they will unscrew so often to make it larger? If thats what you mean...i have had this one BEFORE braces. Idk why you would get it while having braces cuz the expander would be put onto your teeth, but your braces would be in the way to have it stay on. If you get this one i will give you some advice...everytime u go to get it opened more bring a can of pop. drinking pop will make the metal-ish taste go away. and about a week after you get it, you will not be able to talk right and it will be really embarassing. practice talking to yourself and you will get better and not even tell the difference.
If you mean expanders like those little binder things they put in between your teeth that they tell you feel like a popcorn seed and they use those to seperate your teeth more to fit the bands for your braces...then yes most people get this. although my sister didnt cuz her teeth were further apart than mine in the back. they will tell u these expanders dont hurt. but they will burn a bit like a giant popcorn seed lol. i hope this helps.

I had my expander with my braces. I had my braces on for a month or two before getting the expander.
By the previous answer, it looks like it depends on the orthodontist.

it all depends on your present teeth setting and also on your orthodontist's treatment plan.
