I just got my wisdom teeth out and.....?!

Question: I just got my wisdom teeth out and.....?
I got all four out this morning, they were all impacted.
I was under conscious sedation, and it didn't hurt AT ALL. I was laughing the whole time, but the pain meds eventually wore off and I was in the worst pain of my life, horrible.

Then I took my pain meds, Tylenol 3 and 2 Advil's, and like 30 minutes later the pain is mostly gone expect for some discomfort around the stitches..

So my question is..did the meds numb my pain? Like if I didn't take them would I still be in tremendous pain like I was before?

The surgeon said that it would start of no pain, and get worse each night because of the inflammation.

Answers:

Yes, the meds did take away the pain. Just so you know, it is a lot harder to get rid of pain that it is to keep it away. So even if you feel okay now, you should take another painkiller (according to the instructions) before the pain starts coming back. I'm not sure what your surgeon meant about the inflammation. I'm pretty sure you should start to feel better each day, not worse. I got all four out (all impacted as well) two weeks ago under local anaesthetic, and I wasn't in much pain after the first day (didn't need to take painkillers at all after that). If you have swelling you can use ice packs to help with that. And put an old towel or something on your pillow tonight, or you might end up with blood on your pillowcase in the morning (there shouldn't be much bleeding by then, but just in case). :)

Yes, the meds numbed your pain. When I had mine extracted I needed the pain meds for at least 2-3 days...you can start to gradually decrease it (and not mix the advil with the tylenol 3- pick one or the other). Be sure to take food with either so you don't get sick.

...and you're none the wiser. ;)

yea they numbed ur pain
