Root Canal or just pull it?!

Question: Root Canal or just pull it?
I went to my dentist to get a cavity I have checked out because it started hurting. He told me my best bet was a root canal or pull the tooth out, but the tooth was in such bad shape that it would most likely crumble when someone tried to pull it, leading to an orthodontic surgeon having to go in and remove the roots. The tooth is in the lower back left and I have a molar behind it. I was wondering if any of you had any opinion about what I should have done.

Answers:

That is the exact same tooth (#19) that I had pulled 3 days ago. I had a root canal in that tooth 9 years ago and it had problems off and on with infections, plus root was still in there and it ended up fracturing. They could not fix it so I had it pulled. Honestly, root canals are good for saving teeth but most root canals (that I know of) have ended up having problems down the road and the tooth needed to be pulled. If the tooth is in bad shape, pull it. You will save money in the long run. It only cost me 65 bucks to have it pulled. Now I have to think about a bridge or flipper.

Root Canals are trouble in many cases. They're going to be drilling into the tooth and doing other work on it if you go down that road. Root Canals are by no means perfect and can fail. Also take cost into consideration. A root Canal with crowns, buildup, etc will run you thousands of dollars.

ive had both done.. when i got my tooth pulled instead of a root canal it was $100.. and my root canal was $895 (thank god for insurance) id just have the tooth pulled if you cant see it when you smile.. its a lot cheaper.. alot less pain..

Root canal does not hurt I'm 15 and I had it done a few months ago I suggest you get it done and have the dentist put a crown after the procedure
