Tooth Extraction with bone graft, stitches loose?!

Question: Tooth Extraction with bone graft, stitches loose?
Hey guys. I had a cracked tooth extraction procedure done wednesday. They put bone graft in the hole for future implants. Now, Today, I noticed that it felt like there was a gum flopping around and that is apparently what is going on. I don't feel any pain and the swelling if any has gone down. I know its too soon for the stitches to come out. Any idea what's going on or what I can do? It's saturday night and the dentist is closed till Monday.

Answers:

Dissolvable stitches can begin to disintegrate within 72 hours, so it's definitely possible that the stitch just dissolved. Your best bet is to call your dentist's office and see if there is an on-call or emergency number he or she can be reached at. If you have someone who can look in your mouth with a flashlight they may be able to give you a better idea of what's going on. However, if you're not having any pain or bleeding and it's not causing you too much anxiety it can probably wait until Monday morning. In the mean time keep the area clean and monitor it for drainage, swelling, or a bad taste. It probably wouldn't hurt to stick to soft-ish foods until Monday as well.

I've had several extractions and orthognathic surgery.

I agree with Amanda R. Been there, done that.
