Awake during impacted wisdom teeth removal?!?!

Question: Awake during impacted wisdom teeth removal?!?
I'm getting my impacted wisdom teeth surgically removed this Tuesday. All four will be done at once; only one has come up while the others are in sideways and still under my gums.

My oral surgeon refuses to sedate me during the surgery because I have asthma. Everyone who has had it done before has found this very strange.

I don't want to be awake for it! I'm terrified! I asked to be sedated and he said he wouldn't do it. So, because of insurance reasons and the fact that at this point I'd still have to pay for the procedure even if I don't go through with it, I have to go through this awake.

What is it like? Is it terrible? Can you hear noises? Feel things?

Ugh, I'm feeling sick over this.

Answers:

He will use local anesthesia, and you wont be able to feel anything. General anesthesia is very dangerous to use with those with asthma, he is being a responsible oral surgeon by making this decision. You will not be able to feel a thing, you will be able to hear some things but you can bring in head phones, etc... It wont be that bad, especially because you can't see what is going on.

Just hang in there, once they are out it is a lot better.
