What do I do about this facial swelling due to terrible canine tooth?!

Question: What do I do about this facial swelling due to terrible canine tooth?
I've had a ton of nonsense going on with my canine tooth, and the surrounding teeth have also died. I'm getting route canals, possibly a fake tooth. My canines were also pulled out recently to make room.

The left side of my face is swollen all along the cheek, and the canine is severely calcified, standing out from my mouth and pushing my nostril over. It's really ugly, what do I do about the swelling? Should I get the fake tooth just to get rid of the huge mass my canine has become?

It could also be infection, I've had 5 surgeries and I'm expecting 2 more. But I've been on like 4 courses of antibiotics since then.

Answers:

With the kind of swelling that you are describing, it's definitely an infection and potentially life threatening! Don't delay being seen by your dentist or you could end up in the emergency room! Put some ice on it, heat will make it worse.

The rest is confusing. You say the canine is calcified which tells me that it is still in your mouth, but also say that they have been pulled to make room. The canines are rarely pulled for space issues. By "fake tooth" do you mean a crown over your real tooth after root canal treatment? Surgeries? In your mouth?

Someone in your dental office needs to sit down with you and explain exactly what is going on and explain all proposed treatment. Don't be shy about asking questions until you have a full understanding.

The priority is getting the infection under control. Good luck.
