Is it True that I am "Lucky" that I don't have to get my Wisdom T!

Question: Is it True that I am "Lucky" that I don't have to get my Wisdom Teeth removed?
I went to the dentist to see if I was able to remove that stupid little metal wire on the back of my bottom teeth from having braces. I think it's a type of retainer thing you can keep in. Anyway, my dentist first looked in my mouth and took x-rays and it showed that I had 2 bottom wisdom teeth coming in. My dentist told me to wait until they come in (since I have enough room for them) so my teeth don't shift and go crooked. One is completely in now since then and the other is about half way in. My mom says I am very lucky that I have enough room and that a lot of people have to get them pulled. Is that true? Am I really that lucky?

Answers:

Well you are lucky that you don't have to get them pulled out. It's expensive to get those little buggers pulled out. Not to mention if they grow in wrong your teeth shift all over and it looks bad, and it can be painful. Also if they grow in awkward it can make it difficult or even possible to clean between that tooth and the one in front making huge opportunities for bacteria to build up and cause cavities. There's a whole host of things that can go wrong.

A lot of people tend to have to get them pulled out, not enough room, growing in at a bad angle, etc. It's a hassle to have 4 more extra teeth grow in that you might have to get pulled out.

I have a wisdom tooth that's at a 90 degree angle. Not good.

So yeah consider yourself lucky but it's nothing to brag about.

My mom is a dental assistant.
