Dentist says I have cavities but could he be lying to get my money?!

Question: Dentist says I have cavities but could he be lying to get my money?
I had a cavity that was filled a year ago by my dentist and when I went back for my annual cleaning, he said I have another cavity forming. It's a tooth near the front. However, the thing is ... it doesn't look like a cavity. I'm no expert on this but the shape of that tooth has not changed for years. I don't feel discomfort from that tooth. There was a day when it was slightly sore but other than that, nothing. I brush my teeth everyday, I floss that area about 5 days a week, and I use Listerine many times a day ever since last year. I just don't understand how it's a cavity. Is my dentist possibly lying to me to get my money or is there another way to know for sure?

Answers:

He's not lying. Cavities get even the best brushers and flossers. Ask to see the x-ray if you doubt. Get that sucker filled asap. Having a cavity filled is a hell of a lot cheaper than a root canal and crown. You don't feel anything now, but if you let it go, you will feel excruciating pain if you let it get to the point where you need a root canal.

Personal experience

Dentist told me same thing. I didn't listen. I said I don't feel any pain at all. If no pain, no cavities. That's what my definition of cavities is. Years ago I had cavities and they were painful as hell.

It's possible...but if you really feel strongly about it, get a second opinion.

Also, just because you can't SEE a cavity, doesn't mean it's not there...

Lying

There are a lot of "C" students out there practicing dentistry and medicine. It is always important and absolutely necessary to get more opinions before just trusting one of these guys. This is a business for them and they know that if they drill out your tooth, put a filling in, you will be back one day getting a root canal from the infection that grows under the amalgam fillings (if they used amalgam).

Dentistry today may be modern, but that doesn't mean it is good. If you were sitting in a dentists chair in 1915 when modern dentistry began, you would believe you were doing the right thing by having them work on you, right? The average life expectancy in America today is in the 70's. That is really pitiful when you realize that we were designed to live to between 120 and 140 years old. So much of the abuse humans are taking today are from modern dentistry & modern medicine. Putting mercury in our mouths is NOT a good idea on any level, but about 75% of all the dentist in the U.S. are still doing this to people.

A good dentist will use a purple dye to clearly identify where the cavity is. A cavity is an infection of the tooth. DO NOT LET THEM PUT AMALGAM FILLINGS IN YOUR MOUTH. If the dentist you are going to says amalgam is no problem, get up out of your chair, refuse to pay for any services and leave his or her office immediately, never to return. He is a HACK.
