How do I get over the fear of going to the dentist?!

Question: How do I get over the fear of going to the dentist?
I have this huge fear of going. I mean, the place is amazing. They make it as homey as possible. It's a very friendly atmosphere. But I always get nervous whenever I go for a cleaning. I think it's because I'm afraid they'll find something wrong like a cavity and I'll have to have it filled. I don't like pain.... How can I get over my fear of going?

Answers:

You just have to tell yourself to suck it up;I mean is it really that big of a deal?It is a little uncomfortable at times but it only lasts 30 min. at the most and you're done, and if you don't get your cavities filled then it will become root canal which you do NOT want, believe me I know;and besides, with cavities you get that awesome chill gas that makes you happy.
It is possible to do,you just have to decide whether you're going to let some petty fear get the better of you and your health.I used to be afraid of sleeping alone in the dark, which I now do because I told myself if some creepy ghost comes around and does something creepy,do you really want to see it?and if it does is it better to freak out and go sleep somewhere with all the lights on and wake up tired or get over it and get a good nights sleep.

the dentists office can be frightening but I assure you- if you have a cavity they will make the process of filling it as painless as possible. I hate needles in my mouth- but I know some dentists- like my sister's- use nitrous oxide gas. She says she feels absolutely nothing!!! The alternative to good oral hygiene is much more frightening!!!
