Good luck first of all!

Ask to see the colors you get to choose from, then go from there. Keep in mind that bright and light colors will probably look white once they're actually on your teeth!

The reason why your friends disagree on whether braces hurt is because not all braces are the same! If you get ceramic or steel braces, they will hurt considerably. There is a special kind of metal dentists can use (it's a nickel-titanium mix if you're curious) that won't hurt nearly as much. Ask your dentist which kind you're getting!

You won't look dorky at all! It's perfectly normal to get braces and most kids get them at some point or another.

Hope this helps and good luck!

It doesnt hurt when they put them on but after a little bit it hurts when you eat.
But if it hurts or not all depends on the person.
For me, it barely hurt.
For my friend, she cried.
Sooo everyones experience is different.
Don't be nervous.
Nothing to worry about, everything will be fine.

Putting them on doesn't hurt. But every month or so the orthodontist will tighten the wires to make your teeth move a little more. Each time, those first few days when your teeth are beginning to move, will be painful...how painful depends on how much the wires were tightened. Most orthodontists go for a happy medium - tight enough to make a difference in not TOO long a time, but not so tight that it kills. Most kids get used to this and/or take pain relievers when feeling this, but if you can't handle it, just ask the orthodontist to not tighten as much next time.

How dorky you look depends on the expression you wear! If you continue to look confident and cheerful, you won't look dorky.

no, actually, nowadays, braces are cool. no, braces do not hurt while you get them, but girl, after you get them, they hurt SO BAD! you better eat all you are gonna eat before because after ou get them you wont be able to eat for at least a week. head gear isnt bad-just wear it at night in bed and itll take a while to get used to sleeping with it. but not having wires for a while will be fine, it dosent look weird. also, make sure you have extra wax when you get wires oput on, because trust me, youll need it. also again!, lol, be careful with brackets if you eat the wrong food, theyll pop off

Putting them on won't hurt a tad, it will just few extremly awkward and weird. Later at night, your teeth will begin shifting and it will begin to hurt. ;'( I remember the next morning, I could barely open my mouth! it was so sore and I had to eat chocolate mousse :D and soup all day. But don't worry! Take some painkillers such as Tyleonol or Advil and stay away from hard foods for about a week, Don't worry! The pain will eventually go away. But every month when you go back to adjust your braces, your teeth will hurt for a few days, and then depending on how crooked your teeth are, you might need elastics, which are a pain the butt, but it's all worth it! Go for purple, silver if you want it to be less noticiable, or go for blue. Stay strong! Thhe results will be very worth it!
