Amoxicillin 500mg for my tooth?!
Question: Amoxicillin 500mg for my tooth?
Answers:
Hi
This is given for infection, I hope they took an xray to check things out, also you usually take the antibiotic after say root canal treatment is started, get them to explain what they are doing so you know, good luck
Almost everyone has bacteria in them that is resistant to amoxicillin. Unless you are very young. I always give cephalexin 500mg, 4 times a day for 7 days. Always works. An abscessed tooth hurts ony as the ligament surrounding the tooth expands from fluids and gas from the bacteria which are feeding on your dead nerve in the tooth. The antibiotics kill the bacteria and your body can then digest the excess fluid and gas and the bubble shrinks, the pain subsides.

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic - it won't do anything for pain. It's used to treat certain types of bacterial infections.
