My Invisalign trays aren't gripping on my two top front teeth - can my dent!

Question: My Invisalign trays aren't gripping on my two top front teeth - can my dentist make the buttons bigger?
I'm on upper and lower trays #12. 23 upper trays, 20 lower trays. My two top front teeth started having an issue since tray #10 and #11 or so. The trays weren't pulling those two teeth down enough out of the gum (they're being pushed forward at a slanted angle, while also being pulled down out of the gum forward). So we were giving it 4 weeks between trays by extending my wearing of each set, and he gave me these "straws" (cut up pieces of the suction tube that they use when doing cleanings and such) to bite down on and cause the Invisalign tray to lock back onto the button. These two top front teeth have been the trouble spot in that area. I'm having even more trouble down. When I bite down on the straws they gave me, my teeth fit all the way perfectly into the tray - but won't stay locked on the button. I already have considerably large Invisalign buttons (at least compared to the little ones on the side) on these two top front teeth with the trouble. Are there "thicker" buttons that will stick out further from the tooth, so that these trays could lock onto the button better? The trays just fall back down immediately within a few minutes...it's not enough to pull the teeth out like they need to be. I can't possibly go around every 10 minutes biting on straws at work to reset my trays onto the buttons.

Secondly...if there are larger buttons...how would my dentist get these currently solid buttons off from my teeth? I've read that at the end of the treatment, the dentist grinds the buttons off from the teeth. What about halfway through if they need to be changed?

Answers:

Well it sounds to me that the treatment you have isn't working so you are going to need a refinement. This is where they take more impressions and will send out more trays for you that will fit better. I'm not sure about the whole bigger button thing, I have bigger ones on my molars but the front have very small ones. If you do require larger buttons that would have to come with a refinement as the tray will not be able to accomodate the larger attachment and will probably go further from your teeth. It sounds like you are wearing them for the time needed and that your teeth are not that bad (my trays fit perfectly and I'm on 18 out of 39! I had very bad teeth) so they should be moving.

I got a refinement on my bottom and they removed the attachments to do the impressions and when my new set of trays came in they gave me 2 attachments. The refinement was free and I'm happy that I did it because they fit way better to my teeth and I have noticed better results since getting it. How it works is that your dentist will take his buffering tool and just shave it down. There was no pain what-so-ever, I was really worried about it but it was nothing. My teeth looked back to normal and it felt good to have them off. The two new attachments are on 2 of the teeth that I originally had it on and they have stuck and stuck well. They will stick as long as your dentist does it properly. My tooth was the same after as it was before so the fact that i had an attachment there and had it removed made no difference.
