If I don't get minor cavities drilled, will they inevitably form larger cav!
Question: If I don't get minor cavities drilled, will they inevitably form larger cavities, even if I brush and floss?
Answers:
It depends on the extent of the existing cavity. If the cavity is only on the surface (i.e. white spot lesion) there is a chance that it may not progress. It is difficult to answer the question without being able to see the extent of the problem.
I am a dentist.
Once the cavity forms, bacteria inside it can continue to enlarge it.
You can't eliminate sugar intake...eating starches produces sugar (this is what saliva does)...try holding some bread or cracker in your mouth, it'll eventually taste sweet. There is sugar in celery and in meat (ie..."blood sugar"...). And, if you could get the sugar out of your diet...bacteria would feast on something else. They are adaptable.
So, yes, it is necessary to get the bacteria removed and a plug put in to keep them out.
