Should I go to the dentist or can I do something for this myself?!
Question: Should I go to the dentist or can I do something for this myself?
Answers:
You should try to fix it on your own first. Go and buy Sensodyne maximum strength toothpaste and brush twice a day with it. You should notice some improvement after two weeks of brushing.
I am a dentist
What you are experiencing is completely normal; that is how root surfaces of teeth is supposed to respond whenever anything touches it, even air. There is available a certain sealant that some dental offices have that can seal the root surfaces to prevent pain. Most over the counter products are ineffective, IMHO. Another alternative is to have your dentist give you a prescription for a fluoride toothpaste to use. Fluoride is a natural desensitizer and will protect the root surface from cavities. Since root surfaces do not have enamel over them, they are more prone to decay.
