What can I expect if I haven't been to the dentist in nearly 9 years?!

Question: What can I expect if I haven't been to the dentist in nearly 9 years?
Will he find cavities in my mouth? Could I be able to tell beforehand if I have cavities (as in pain)? I'm really scared that I'll have to have a root canal or teeth extracted since I haven't been to the dentist in so long. I'm good about brushing and flossing but I'm still scared.

By the way, I don't have any dental insurance. This is the major reason behind all of this.

Answers:

If you've generally been keeping good care of your teeth, flossing & brushing, and didn't have too many sugary foods, you might be just fine. Don't stress about it.

You may have some cavities, but if you don't feel any pain or discomfort now, they will be likely very small cavities, very easy to repair and not too hard on the wallet. Most people know when they need a root canal, as there tooth nerve is dead/dying and they can feel it.

Just make sure that you have a good dentist who is understanding. If you explain your situation they will understand. It's good that you are going now!

As what you have said, you practiced good oral hygiene then you can expect least dental caries, tooth decays and other periodontal problems. Though, it would be great that you regularly see your dentist for teeth cleaning to effectively maintain a healthy teeth and gums.

There is absolutely NO WAY anyone on Yahoo Answers can possibly tell you what will happen!!!!!
You will have X-rays done. You will have an examination. You will have a cleaning if you booked yourself in for that. Aside from that....it would take an amazing prognosticator to be able to tell you what dental problems if any will be found?????????????

It's depends on your age and where you live as well, type of car, etc. I would shop insurance coverage online and get quotes from various insurance companies. Try a reputable site like:

if you are good at brushing and flossing then no cavities will be there.
there might be some stains.thats all.

Nothing bad. But maybe go to the dentist a little more often.
