I stopped smoking a year ago. Can my gums change colour?!

Question: I stopped smoking a year ago. Can my gums change colour?
I looked at my gums for the first time since I stopped smoking.

From what I remember my gums where a horrible black, almost Purple colour. Now they seem to be lightening in some areas. Almost to a pinkish white.

Is this possible our is it maybe some kinda gum disease?

I also recently started eating healthier as I was previously overweight...Don't know if that would make a difference though.

What do you think? Have you experienced this?

I cant find much info on the net so I would appreciate your advice/ personal story

Once you stop smoking, it is perfectly normal for your gums to change colors. The nicotine in cigarettes causes the blood vessels in your gums to constrict-therefore they will appear a different color from gum tissue of someone who is a non-smoker.

Yes.My dentist told me a while ago that when you smoke its stops your gums from bleeding which is natural. If your gums change color and they bleed when brushing its a good thing.

EDIT:Look,my dentist told me that your gums are supposed to bleed it means you have healthy gums. Why give me thumbs down when im just saying what the dentist told me?

Ummm. I think if your gums are bleeding at anytime....this is not a good thing.
