Is flossing your teeth supposed to hurt your gums?!

Question: Is flossing your teeth supposed to hurt your gums?
Hello. I have recently started to floss, I started about a week ago. Well...whenever I floss, it hurts :[
My gums are very tender..and also everytime I floss I bleed. I am wondering if this is normal or not. Is it because I just started flossing?

Thank you

Answers:

When you just start flossing yes, it's normal. It's new to your gums. In a few days once they are used to it you shouldn't be getting anymore irritation.

If you experience bleeding and swollen gums still after a week, then go consult your dentist.

Flossing does hurt when you first start but in time it won't hurt, if you do it each day.

no! it's not supposed to hurt or bleed when you floss. see a dentist.
