Swollen jaw due to tooth abscess?!

Question: Swollen jaw due to tooth abscess?
Bottom left side of my jaw has swelled up due to a tooth abscess. Been this way for about 4 days now. I have been mixing it up with a hot & cold pack and swishing with a salt water mix and so far not having any improvement. I have barely slept since it swelled up. I got laid off from my job not long ago because it was slow so I no longer have insurance to go to a dentist and don't have the money to pay out of pocket. Any suggestion on what I can do? Thank you

You will have to get it taken care of. For pain, you can swish with whiskey then spit out, you can continue the salt water rinses, you can buy liquid ambesol and apply, you can buy these swabs by oragel to apply to the area as well. I liked the ambesol. It will not get better but worse. You need
2 kinds of antibiotics and to have the tooth extracted. You can call around to universities that may have dental clinics and sometimes they will do it so their students can get the practice. It is usually a reduced fee. Also, you can call the american dental association and ask if they can point you to a place that helps low income/no income individuals in need of dental assistance. You can also, I have heard, go to a place like PetSmart or somewhere where they sell amoxicillan for dogs over the counter and take the 500 mg. It is the exact same as amoxicillan given to people. It will help temprarily, but you will have to get the tooth extracted because it can be fatal if left untreated sometimes, it can cause a brain abscess or other bad infection in your blood if I remember right.
If you go to the doctor and explain that you can't get it removed, they may give you a one time perscription for antibiotics which will buy you a little more time to get up the money for the extraction. God bless and i hope this will help you in some way.

I can tell you now, very seriously, you need to go to the dentist somehow. Un-treated abscess teeth can be very life threatning due to the infection from it spreading. A tooth abscess complication includes tooth loss, jaw bone damage, neighboring tooth damage or loss, sinus problems, brain abscess, heart damage, hospitalization, coma, and even death. (Last sentence from website)

My grandfather had abscess that the infection went to his brain..he cant even take care of himself anymore...he had to go to a nursing hom from it.

In the mean time, I would go to the e.r. since you dont have to pay up front and have it drained and get some pain medication.

Call the county health department, or social services, and find out if there are any free/low cost dental services in your area. Once a tooth becomes abscessed the pain won't go away without treatment with antibiotics to clear up the infection. There really aren't any home remedies that will give much pain relief.
