Wisdom teeth removal: is it really necessary?!

Question: Wisdom teeth removal: is it really necessary?
I removed my wisdom teeth days ago.
They didn't bother me much but I decided to remove them before any complications.

Is it bad if you remove your wisdom teeth and you didn't need to?
Also, is it possible to grow only the upper ones and not the lower ones?

Answers:

No its fine. Your dentist and oral surgeon saw a benefit in doing it. Like someone posted below, most wisdom teeth become a liability because there isn't enough room for them, they're difficult to keep clean because they're so far back, etc. Only if they can fully erupt with enough room in your mouth would you plan to keep them. You'll be fine without them.

It is very possibly to only develop upper wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the most commonly missing teeth in the mouth, and lots of people don't have all four. If you only had the upper ones then you're lucky because they're easier to remove and heal more quickly than the lowers!

They are usually only removed if there is a problem, such as impacted, affecting the nearby teeth or they are decayed. If they grow in healthy and no problems, there is nothing to mean they will give you bother later on, as long as you keep them clean and healthy, the same as any other tooth.

However, you can live perfectly happily without them, so removing them will not affect anything. I don't know about none growing in, perhaps they are still to appear?

Not at all, wisdom teeth from an evolutionary stand point are completely useless anyways. They use to be useful long ago when Humans had much larger jaws with more teeth which was great for grinding up plants. This is not the case anymore and wisdom teeth are more or less a liability. It's great that you decided to take em out before you get an impacted tooth or something since it would require surgery.

As for your second question, no, that just common sense.

It is never necessary to remove wisdom teeth unless they are causing you problems. The fact that you have removed them won't do you any harm, but if they weren't bothering you then I would say you were probably a bit premature in doing so.

Your second question is a bit unclear: do you mean only growing the upper ones on account of having only the lower ones removed? If this is the case, then yes - if you don't have them removed they will grow!

My beliefs are it is only necessary if they are doing harm to the teeth around it.

Most wisdom teeth disturb the teeth around it as it grows, messing up the pattern.

It isn't bad if you removed it and you did not need to, only bad thing is the pain you go through after the procedure..

Also.. It's quite expensive! I heard from my relative its up to $2500 just to get all of them done.

I asked this question today before I got 1 wisdom tooth pulled.

See, my top 2 have grown out fine, my bottom right is needed because i had a tooth extracted 9 years ago and so it sorta took the place of that molar. My bottom left molar was the one I decided needed to go because it became infected and made my breath terrible, so I went to the dentist and she said I must get rid of all of them at once... so I said no, because the 2 on my maxilla didnt bother me and in fact had grown out.

So, they sent the chick who bills the insurance why i need it and to discuss it with the other doctor designated for removing teeth to tell me why i need them removed...

So, I went online and did my own research and yup, you don't have to get rid of them unless:

1- they are impacted and causing you pain

or

2- they become infected

So, I used my job as an excuse for them sparing my top teeth today and they took out of bottom tooth despite all my friends and ppl here telling me to get them all done.

If they have grown, then they need to be removed. Not everyone has them. If you do not remove them, they can develop cavities. The main reason to remove them'

And yes, some people will have top and none on the bottom. And vice versa.

Yes. You can't chew with them and it's really hard to brush. So that creates cavities.

Only have them removed if they are causing you bother, if not leave them be

You removed your wisdom teeth? My hat goes off to you. You must have very strong arms, an incredibly high pain threshold, and are also extraordinarily good at working in mirrors. Have you thought of joining the military, maybe as a combat pilot? You certainly seem to have some fantastic skills.
