Teeth brushing question?!

Question: Teeth brushing question?
I sometimes go weeks without brushing my teeth
never had a cavity
never had any kind of surgery
If my teeth start to get yellow I brush them
I also floss away the plaque maybe once a week
why am I so awesome?

The answer to your question is that oral health is very much dependent upon the quality of your oral bacteria.

Your oral bacteria (whether they cause cavities or not) serve an important function; they physically inhibit invasion of even more pathologic bacteria since the surfaces of your teeth, gums, tongue, etc. are already colonized with bacteria and there is no more room left in the inn.

The same principle applies to whether or not you get cavities, if the surfaces of your teeth are already inhabited with bacteria that do not makes acids then it will be very difficult for that space to become overrun with acidogenic bacteria since a balance has already been established (bacteria produce chemicals to fight competing bacteria). Naturally, this balance can be disturbed by drastic changes in diet, etc. but it takes time to completely disrupt.

The bacteria in your mouth establish themselves when you are still young and often even before you get teeth (they inhabit the furrows of your tongue), and you get them from people you associate with most like your family (most often the mother) and friends. Once all of your teeth fully erupt into the mouth the environment becomes fairly well established and resistant to minor changes.

There are also other factors at work. The enamel pellicle, a protein skin coating your teeth, confers a level of acid resistance, and its protective function is modified by dietary polyphenols (which also happen to stain teeth). If you brush with a high abrasive toothpaste (instead of a low abrasive one), you can strip away the pellicle (this is how whitening toothpastes work), and that doesn't help your cause if your goal is to prevent cavities. The pellicle is your friend.

I know I totally owned this question. Go to my blog @ www.freysmiles.com/blog I have made an epic eBook on the Ideal Oral Health Routine check out the posts and leave me a comment.

EWWW tht is f'ing nasty ha ha :D maybe juss the build up of plaque is so strong tht it protects your teeth tht is exposed to sugary stuff. I really have no good explanation :)) ha ha

Maybe the built up plaque on your teeth provided a
protective shield from cavity causing substances.

Some people are like that, but if you continue to not brush then, well.. aha, better find you some false teeth to wear xD
because some people are just awesome that way :D

lol well they do say the people who clean themselves but not daily are the healthy est ones lol
