My gum on the front top left side of my teeth are severley swollen, help please?!

Question: My gum on the front top left side of my teeth are severley swollen, help please?
Some background info: My teeth are pretty healthy, but a tooth right behind my top left canine was hit by a ski lift, a small bit of the top of my tooth got chipped off. Over 2 years later, i developed a cavity there and it went untreated. My dentist told me that i will need to get a crown there, and I will be getting it in a few months. I am a 15 year old male.

Yesterday, I woke up with a really bad toothache (I havnt gotten a toothache in years) and it kept hurting all day. Both the tooth and the gum directly above it hurt pretty bad. When i came back from school I took an Aleve (around 6 pm) hoping it stop the pain. Soon after it stop hurting, but later the pain started again and i took another one at around 10 pm. I fell asleep and woke up with my gums severely swollen. The top of my gum almost dropped to the beginning of my teeth. It feels swollen from the canine to the tooth beside my molar. Also it doesn't just end in my mouth, It keeps going up underneath my skin from the corner of my nose to about an inch left and almost to the top of the nose (sort of like a right triangle). It feels pretty thick and hard, i can see it from the bottom of my left eye, and its pretty noticeable when looking at my face. But the tooth that was causing the pain feels fine now. I brought up the Aleve because i think taking 2 Aleves 3 hours next to each other when theyre 12 hour pills could of done something, not because of any allergies, Ive taking Aleve before without any problems. It doesn't feel like it has improved as the day went by.

Can you guys tell me why this is happening and what i can do to fix this? I don't want to bother my parents on this unless its something serious.

Thanks guys

Answers:

You're most likely sporting a hell of an infection and you shouldn't wait to have it looked into. Infections that start in your mouth can have serious health complications thanks to the bacteria there, so even though the pain has gone away that doesn't mean that it will resolve itself. I strongly suggest you have it looked into as soon as possible.

I don't know what it is but you could try using some mouthwash. when ever i get any type of sour in my mouth i use my mouthwash, it is called equate antiseptic mouthrinse, it helps get rid of plaque, gingivitis and bad breath... so yeah i would recommend this mouthwash over the other ones

Sounds like your broken tooth is abscessed. Now in addition to a crown you'll need a root canal as well. Don't take more alleve than what it says on the bottle because it can cause some pretty serious side effects in your stomach and kidneys. You definitely need some antibiotics and get back to your dentist to see if the tooth is still salvageable.
