The area of gum behind my last Molar is hurting?!

Question: The area of gum behind my last Molar is hurting?
I have been flossing regularly and when I was flossing at one point behind my last molar, I noticed a sharp pain. It's only noticeable once I disturb that general area by flossing and it goes away within the hour. What could be causing this? Did I floss too deep into the gum or something and it's just trying to heal? I was trying to see if it may be a cavity, which I'm pretty sure it isn't as it is not my tooth that is aching, just the gum right behind it.

Anyone know what it could be?

Answers:

You could have a piece of food like popcorn skin under your gum or you could have just damaged it from your flossing technique. Try warm salt water rinses a few times a day and if it doesn't clear up in a week or so then go see your dentist.

How old are you? It could be your wisdom teeth coming in. They start erupting around 16 - 22.
