does it hurt when you get braces?!

Question: Does it hurt when you get braces?
Answers:

Apparently not, my son recently had one fitted, just a bit uncomfortable and awkward to talk with at first, and he found it difficult to eat to start with, so I cut things up to make it easier, and softer food was easier too, it's best to use an 'orthodontic' toothpaste too, after a week he feels like it's part of him, so don't be worried, you'll be fine x

No, not at all, might be uncomfortable at first. I've had two types.

Train tracks to straighten your teeth, they are the metal ones on the front of your teeth, unless you are punched in the mouth or something, they won't get caught on the inside of lips. I've had this happen to me; someone threw my bag at me and I wasn't ready to catch it, the inside of my lip was attached to the metal, it only hurt a little and bled a little when I ripped my lip from the metal.

Retainer to widen your mouth, which is normally a see through thing you can take in and out of your mouth like false teeth. This is the uncomfortable one because it's stretching your mouth, you might find it weird to eat food, your dentist might say you can or can't take it out while eating, mine told me I couldn't so for the first few meals I would take it out as it's impossible to eat, but you soon get used to it.

Getting braces doesnt hurt. The pain comes in once the braces are on and they add the rubberbands. Depending on how tight they are. Your mouth gets used to them fairly quickly. Then every so often you have to go in for your routine cleaning and tightening of the rubber bands. As long as you take care of your mouth, you will be just fine. You will love how much better your smile looks once they are removed.

It doesn't hurt when they put it on, just feels vibraty and odd.
Then they'll say it'l ache for about three days. That's a lie. It will ache for a week. It doesn't really hurt, just gets very, very annoying.

Had braces

having the braces stuck on (fixed-track) doesn't hurt at all, when they are tightened the only way i can describe it is like an itch in the gum, getting them removed is uncomfortabe but doesn't hurt.

had fixed brace for two years

It doesn't hurt, it does ache quite a bit though, but you can take some painkillers and it'll be fine, it is defo well worth it!

Experience

It hurts only when you don't find a reputable, caring and compassionate Orthodontist, or if he adjusts them too tight.

my orthodontist must've got his license at Dachau

A bit of an achy pain, nothing too terrible
