Yes it depends on how tolerant you are with pain. My sister had pain for like 4 days, I had pain for two weeks. Just take some over the counter pain relievers like Tylenol...Excedrin is my favorite because it works so fast. If you are super sensitive to pain you may experience the pain for a day or two every time you change your rubber bands or get a new wire as well.

P.S. I had braces for three years :-)

My experience with braces

Yep, its normal. I had a similar feeling every time my braces were tightened. It will last about a week.

As an aside, I've found that a single Tylenol can make eating with sore teeth much easier.
