I'm not able to quit smoking; I tried so many times- anyone knows easy ways !

Question: I still have enough control and NEVER smoked more than 2 in a day. I always try to control myself whenever there is a smoking urge.

Recently, I went without cigs for almost 15 days in a stretch. This followed after a serious throat viral infection. But now, it's back to Square One.

Part of the problem is I live in a busy street and there are lots of shops selling tobacco so access to cigarettes is very direct. Whenever I take a walk, I feel the urge to buy cigarettes.

Also, smoke-addiction runs in my family. My father, uncles and all male relatives have been lifelong smokers. I read a scientific article that smoking habit may be "genetic". Is this true?

I've tried to switch to LOW nicotine slim cigarettes at least (STELLAR Brand). But, still there is the Tar and Carbon Monoxide component which I don't want in my lungs.

Hey there. I'm a smoker too. A very heavy one and try to quit can be hard but not imposible. You're on the right track mate. will power. let me incourage you. When I go to town, I leave the pack at home. I hang out with friends that don't smoke, when I go to work, the ciggies stay home. but, BUT the cigs are still there when I get home. But I give myself a pat on the back cause I haven't had one all day. You've done well. 2 a day that's great effort. So stop beating yourself up about it and keep up the good work. Think positively as you bye pass those shops, speak to yourself. I don't need you today so get lost. Say: I'm the boss necatine not you so beat it. It works for me and if it can work for me, it can for anyone. Good luck and stay strong. You can beat this if you really want to.

Drink lots of water and find a calm place. Lots of people smoke because of stress. You can also try sleeping a lot more, and going to a smoke-free gym.

ask your doctor about chantix... its pretty crazy!!! Its a pill that makes you find cigarettes disgusting. At least thats what it did to me.

I went cold turkey, I just thought to myself that I controlled them they did not contol me. Plus, not sure if its true but I kept in mind that each one I smoked took 7 minutes off my life. I dont want that.

theres a new pill out called chantix i took it for a week before i quit & the night befoew i quit i took 1 or 2 puffs and put it out first time ever in my life good luck

As a nonsmoker, I simply cannot understand this addiction. My advice to you is, tell yourself right now that you have already smoked your last cigarette, and that's it, no more cigarettes. If only it were that simple, right? Well, just do it!

I know how I got my dad to quit smoking.

I told him that if he didn't quit I would stop talking to him. And he could tell I was serious.

Also, he ended up in the hospital from being unhealthy.

Once something forces you to quit, like a scare, you'll quit.

Talk to your doctor. Try the patch. Try gum. Try cold turkey. blah blah blah. There are plenty of options.

i started quiting monday and i havent smoked a cig since chewing gum helps alot... throwing away lighters ash tray help
not hanging out with smokers helps... and alot of support from someone close to you... good luck

Chant ex. This wonder drug occludes your 'uptake' of nicotine. You can still smoke...but the nicotine..it will not be received.

Quitting smoking is a pain in the ***, but honestly, I don't believe in all of the things they have on the market designed to help you quit. I really believe that if you want to quit bad enough, you simply will. But I understand it's a strong urge and one difficult to deny. It's like you know its bad, but when you're craving one, it's like..."what's a few more?" My only suggestion is that you learn to hate it...let it repulse you and look down on it. You're too good to smoke...think that people who don't quit are just weak. I'm not saying they are because I know it's hard, but the more you make yourself hate it, you won't want it. Try watching videos or reading stories about people dying from diseases caused by smoking and other sad, upsetting things that have to do with it. Then you will feel guilty for not only yourself, but for everything you've watched/read everytime you smoke. It just takes will power. The only one who should be able to control you, is you. Not a cancer stick. Remember that.

i don knw abt the genetic thing but ur family all are smokers so i knw its hard for u too quit..mayb u can get out somewhr whn anyone is smoking in ur hse.at least ur not being tempted to light up..if u gt the heart to quit smoking, no matter whr u go u see places selling ciggies, u wont buy it.its all in the mind..so u gt to fight it..

When There is a Will, There is a Way!!

I slowly cut back everyday. Then, I got to the point where I would only have one once every few days. After a couple weeks, I just stopped. It has been 2.5 yrs! I never thought that I would be strong enough. That addiction made me feel weak. I have to be honest though that I still crave them from time to time. Good luck!

This sounds dumb, but try hypnosis. My dad just quit, and he has never gone more than a week on anything else. The people in at the centre he went to are really nice too, it isn't like a in-and-out money grab like some places.

I hear ya! The surgeon general once stated that nicotine is more addictive than cocaine! I am struggling myself, but I did stop for 1 year once by using both the patch and the gum.
There are more suggested methods of quitting than there are cigarette butts in the world! The only cure for smoking, for far too many is DEATH!

VISIT THE LOCAL WHOLESALE CANDY HOUSE PURCHASE A LARGE QUANTITY OF SUGARLESS PEPERMINTS PERFERABLLY STRAIGHT TYPE.ALTOUGH THE ROUND ONES WILL WORK AS WELL.EACH TIME YOU HAVE AN ERGE FOR A CIGARETTE.EAT A PEPPERMINT(SUGAR LESS)

I smoked for many years, and, at today's prices probably burned up a small fortune. I quit 4 years ago after a 2 week hospital stay, and have not smoked one since. (I had switched to lights, then to ultra-lights, and was working at thinking about quitting when the health issue came up.)
Now, it is ironic, as I think they smell/stink very bad. But I have many new "toys" that I have purchased with the money that I used to burn on smokes.
If you can quit for 2 weeks once, you can do it again without a viral infection as an aid. Change a few habits, walk on the other side of the street from the smoke shops...
Good luck! It's worth it for your health AND your wallet!
