Question about Fiberglass?!

Question: I was watching somebody install fiberglass (for about 5 minutes) and left the room. My throat feels a bit scratchy and I keep coughing. It's starting to go away a bit, but am I in real danger because of this?

No. I install insulation for a living. Its very irritating but you will be fine. The body can break down fiberglass(unlike asbestos). I would still recommend a mask and long sleeves to be worn when handling fiberglass

U should go see a doc as a precaution

Not saying that is it this but fibreglass gives u cancer.
I advice u 2 go 2 the doctor.ASAP!!!

No your not just garggle some warm water if it doesent workt he first time do it a couple times. Im a electrican believe me i know fiberglass like the back of my hand. If you get it on your skin soap and water. Or a piece of scotch tape. Next time were a dust mask then u wont have a problem.

well fiberglass is not that much of a threat if its correctly installed
check for cracks and stuff like that if your condition lasts for more than a few hours immediatly go too the doc...

Not if you only breathed it for a few minutes. Lesson learned: never use fiberglass, or be exposed to it without proper protection for your skin, eyes, and throat. I had to learn this lesson too, but I was dumb enough to work with it all day ONCE. Boy did my throat kill me for a few days!

no but at the time a glass of milk would have helped ,strongly advised to wear mask safety goggles and even coveralls especially when cutting or grinding try not to scratch as the fibre which is glass can break your skin into sores

Fibre glass can irritate the skin...especially if you move it about in the loft without gloves...breathing it should be avoided by wearing a particle mask...but the little cuts and soreness will go away...and I dont think its poisonous?...

They say no, but it can't be good for you. Some installers wear dust masks. You are probably just sensitive to it, and are having a temporary reaction. I'd drink some warm tea and give the mimute particles time to flush away in your system.

We put sheepswool insulation into our home to stop just what you are talking about. Looks just like fibreglass, but no itchies and scratchies. Smells great too.

Now that you know your reaction, might be an idea to avoid it in future. But don't spend time worrying about it now. You'll be fine in a few hours.
