What kind of degree would I need to work at a spa as a masseuse?!

Question: I'm very sure it would depend on whichever spa I chose to work at, but is there a specifc degree needed like the actual massage therapy degree that physical therapists need to get?

First, a massage therapist and a physical therapist are very different things. If you want to do JUST massage, you can do so with a massage therapy certification which can range in training from about 10 months to about 2 years. It depends on the program to which to complete your education.

It will depend on the state you live in, but most states do now require licensure after graduating from the appropriate program.

If you want to become a phyisical therapist, this requires a master's or doctorate level degree. We do a little massage...but not like an MT...our practice encompasses a vast array of techniques and treatment of a variety of different disorders.

...P.S. Most massage therapists take offence to the word "masseuse"...it implies one of THOSE type of massages...you know what I mean. The appropriate term is massage therapist.

My friend works at a spa as a massage therapist and her degree is in kinesiology.
