Will my operation go ahead?!

Question: I am due to have a general anesthetic on Tuesday, I have a bad cold, do you think they will still do the op'? I have been told by some people that they do not if you have a cough or cold.

it really does depend on the hospital,
they may tell you to let them know when your cold has cleared up & they'll reschedule it.
or whether the operation is deemed as urgent.

& knowing the NHS like we know it of late, if the hospital can make money from performing your operation, they'll manage somehow.
no fret, there's still time before Tues.
look after yourself, drink lots of water to wash the cold out of your system & fingers crossed you'll be a lot better by Tues.

If you still have a bad cold possibly not, be try and think positive and hopefully you will be much better by then. Good luck!

It depends whether your chest is clear or not. They will examine you first to see if you are fit enough.

This situation happened to me, too. Tell the surgeon and talk to the anesthesiologist when you are being prepped. They will decide.

I'm having an op. tomorrow, and have a slightly stuffy chest. Am going into hospital in about half an hour, but have been dosing on echinacea and vitamin C to ward it off - you could try the same. Keep warm and dry, good luck !
