Bone Scans to determine is Growth Plates are closed?!

Question: I was just wondering if I could get one of these done, because I'm really interested in knowing if I'm going to get taller or not. If anyone has gotten this done, could you tell me if your doctor suggested it? What was your reason for getting it done? Did you request it? Did the doctor readily say it was okay to do it? Does insurance cover it? Okay, thanks :)

i think all u have to do is get an x-ray. i had one done on my knee and the docters said that my groth plates were closed. i think u could just say that u want one done and they will scedule one for u. it depends which insureance you have.

Epiphyseal plates (the bone plates you are referring to) http://www.mrs.umn.edu/~goochv/HAP/lectu... generally fuse about age 17 but may fuse as late as age 21.

Insurance will not cover an x-ray or bone scan without an accompanying diagnosis, and unfortunately "curiosity" isn't an acceptable diagnosis. If one of your legs were shorter than the other, or if your long bones weren't growing (i.e., achondroplastic dwarfism), or if a fracture was suspected, a physician might be able to order a scan or an x-ray.

You cannot delay the fusion of the epiphyseal plates. Exercise (the weight-bearing kind) and proper nutrition will help assure that you grow as tall as you are genetically programmed to.

ty is right the other person is lieing
