Does a seizure damage you?!

Question: Usually seizures cause no damage to your brain. Having a seizure is comparable to an electronic device "short-wiring". NOT EVERY SEIZURE WILL RESULT IN BRAIN DAMAGE. In fact, most seizures do not cause any brain damage at all. There are millions of people who have epilepsy and have multiple seizures everyday, and they have no brain damage.

The people that are saying that seizures definitely cause brain damage have no idea what they're talking about or what seizures are.

However, if a person has multiple seizures in a row without regaining consciousness or has a seizure that lasts over 30 minutes the person is in what is known as status epilepticus, which is NOT NORMAL even if the person has epilepsy and is a medical emergency. Status epilepticus can lead to permanent brain damage.

If a person has a seizure and they have not been diagnosed as an epileptic, it is a medical emergency and you should call 911. If a person with epilepsy has a seizure that lasts over 5 minutes or they have more than one seizure without regaining consciousness or if they may have fallen or been injured, call 911.

It's more likely that a person having a seizure will be injured when they fall or jerk around on the ground. My dad, who has epilepsy, had a seizure once while driving and crashed into a house. He ended up in the hospital.

First aid for a seizure: gently move the person to the floor, remove any restricting clothing (like a tight collar) and remove anything dangerous or heavy from the area. Do not put anything into their mouth or try to hold them down. After the seizure roll them onto their side. During a seizure a person may vomit, pee or poop. They may go to sleep and even snore after having a seizure, or they may be extremely confused. If they continue to be confused or acting strangely, or if their mental status gets worse instead of better over time, call 911.

DUH

uh yeah!

yes but it can vary. when you have a seizure you lose oxygen to your brain which can cause brain damage in some cases/.

yes, because when you have a seizure you get little oxygen to the brain. If you have one for too long you can actually go brain dead.

Yeah, you can hurt yourself physically by the jerking. I knew a man who beat himself to death in his kitchen while having a seizure. Also, it does brain damage if you seize for too long.

Yes, the extreme electrical impulses and lack of oxygen for a short time can damage the brain.

...And just like the answerer above mine stated, you can also injure your self while your body is convulsing. My mom's friend had a seizure and kept hitting her head off of her nightstand, she was alone & eventually died of blood loss and blunt force trauma to her head.

Yes it can, if you convulse and fall you can hurt yourself. Also after so many years it tends to take a toll on the organs.

yes it kills 1/16 of your brain cells every 10 seconds

a seizure can cause, black outs, aneurysms, blood clots...

a massive seizure can leave you in a coma, make swallow your tounge, an possibly fatal..a small seizure isn't nothing to worry about..

to help reduce chances.. if you smoke.. quit smoking!! smoking tightens up blood vains in your body.. not allowing blood to circuilate properly...

eat plenty of fruit, vegetables, and very healthy food...
keeping a good source of protien inside your body will help your body balance its natrual chemistry a whole lot efficiently..
so be sure to limit your sweets, an saturated fats!..
also taking 1 or 2 tylenol/ibprofien/advil/bayer, can help reduce the oncoming seizure ..
because thoses pills thins the blood allowing blood circulation to move more steadily.. an easily threw out the body..
