Prostitutes sell their...*ahem*... wares to just about anyone for money, in order to make a living, not because it makes them happy or fulfills them in any way. Girls with several ex's are simply girls who are looking for the happiness and fulfillment that comes with having a boyfriend; having someone who will (hopefully) stand by you in the hard times, and celebrate the happy times by your side.
There are, of course, girls who go out with guys purely for the physical pleasures of a relationship, but it isn't your duty or mine to judge these girls (and their guys); after all, you never know the whole truth behind why they do what they do, and if you did, you might just feel a bit more sympathy for them.
The girl with "several boyfriends in (the) past" is most likely to have one of them be a creepy stalker type who likes to post on-line messages comparing her to a prostitute.
Prostitutes hardly ever get that; just girls who have rejected immature nut-jobs.

Well there is a big difference for the simple fact that just because the girl had a lot of boyfriends doesn't mean that she slept with all of them and another one is that even if she had been intimate with them she might have had feelings for the ones she was with...as for a prostitue,well the majority of them sleep with all their clients and get paid to do it!!

This is a bit harsh, but it was the view of a female.
Personally, I feel that a girl who has had a lot of boyfriends means that she has had a number of males who she has had emotional involvements with, and does not necessarily mean that she has slept with all of them, and even if she has, it just makes her slightly promiscuous.
A prostitute sells her body for money and has no emotional involvement with the person she has sex with and most often does not have any enjoyment from it.
I don't think its about the money. I think it is a question of whether the girl is attracted to those she has sex with. In the case where she has several boyfriends she probably is, and in the case of a prostitute she probably isn't.
A girl who HAS HAD several boyfriends was shopping around for who SHE wanted for a future life partner....trial and error. A prostitute is a person in and out the bed ONLY for the MONEY.
There is a huge difference!
A girl in her lifetime can have many relationships, and by all rights that is the best way to familiarize yourself with other people and how it is to be with someone. A girl who has a lot of boyfriends is learning what it is she really likes in a guy, and one day when she finds the right guy she will pick him and marry him. (Maybe... marriage is sort of going out of style these days)...
A prostitute is not looking for a relationship, she is seeking an income, and giving up sex for money. She's not interested in a relationship at all, she's merely making an income using her body.
A long time ago, many women did this. This was the only way women used to be able to make money... so back in the olden days it was probably the #1 job that women had. Of course, it's not a job that most women would want to do, but for some women it's the only way to make money.... and it's illegal now, where before it used to be legal.
I think a girl having a lot of boyfriends is just a girl who's not serious about a real long term relationship, but yet, she is looking for a guy to spend her time with... sleep with, go out with, etc....
Prostitutes just want the man to come in, get it over with and get out... it's just for the money. If prostitution was legal, I bet a lot more women would do it though.
