Daughter is sick - please help?!

Question: My ten year old daughter has a fever of 102. She is lying on her bed and is very weak. She is finding it a bit difficult to breathe. She keeps saying that she is having blackouts. I can't take her to the ER as I can't drive, my husband is out and I am at home with my 2 other daughters.

First off - 102 is not a critically high temperature. 104+ and you start worrying seriously. Second- has your daughter had anything significant to drink in the past couple hours? Is she ABLE to swallow on her own? If so - have her drink clear fluids starting NOW. Third - IF your daughters relatively low level of consciousness is not normal and she 'seems' to truly be having blackouts while lying down - Call a friend, neighbor, whatever, get off the internet and get your daughter to competent medical care. If you don't have any friends or there is absolutely NO ONE you can call for a ride - CALL AN AMBULANCE and have her brought to the hospital - it may not be a TRUE emergency - however - if you are stranded as you claim - you need to have your daughter seen by a physician relatively quickly. She sounds pretty ill and you sound pretty isolated. Take care of THAT after your daughter is well.

9-1-1?

Neighbors? Relatives? Telephone husband? Are YOU the 10 year old?

Call a neighbor to drive you and drop you off or call a cab, or, (this is the best way) call 911.

I would call the doctor or hospital, ask them if it is serious enough to send an ambulance.

uh say it with me............ 911

Man, call an ambulance. That doesn't sound very good.

Call 911. Why are you here. Someone should contact DYFS on you

Call 911! Do you not have EMS in your area!!!

SHES FINE. Just give her water and chicken soup. Stop overreacting about nothing! ER people get very annoyed at you people. Its not worth the time and money to go to the ER. Make a regular doctors appoinment if you are THAT worride.

Call ambulance... Be a Mom and do what is best for your kid!

911 it's an emergency!

You need to call 911 what are you waiting on???? hello any parent would know that a child with a fever that high and having blackouts like you say and you cant drive or leave the house call 911 or get a neighbor to take you to the hospital or better yet call your husband to come home and take you to the hospital GET HELP FOR YOUR CHILD RIGHT AWAY what are you waiting on.

Keep her comfortable, give aspirin for the fever, elevated her feet. That may help her complaints of blacking out. I would think if her condition worsens, that calling for an ambulance to transport her to an ER might be in order. Good luck

If she has that high of a fever and shortness of breath with blackouts get off the internet and call an ambulance or your husband, she needs to be seen by a doctor not a question on yahoo answers.....GO NOW!!!

If she has trouble breathing, CALL911 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CALL A FRIGGIN AMBULANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY ARE YOU ON HERE ASKING US?

Hi i am 10 too! I have the perfect soulotion for this. I would call a friend of someone to take oyour daughter to the er and u can also take your other to daughters with you. If their young they could color or draw if they are older they could bring a book or text their friends. I would take her to a doctor right away. It could be very serious.

102 isn't that high of a fever, they'll suggest some Tylenol. If the Tylenol doesn't work try a cool compress or a warm bath (never a cold one!). Unless her lips are turning blue and her nostrils are flaring the difficulty breathing doesn't sound like an emergency. Sit with her and watch her and see if she's truly blacking out. Give her fluids and keep her hydrated. If you can't bring her fever down or her condition worsens think about a trip to the Urgent Care or ER later in the evening. It's not an immediate need and definitely not a need for 911. If you're really worried call the hospital and speak to a nurse.
