People with bellybutton piercings?!

Question: I've just got my bellybutton pierced, and I was wondering: when, in six weeks, I change the bar I'm currently wearing, should I sterilise the new one?

I would be grateful for any information from those with experience with this. Thank you.

you can buy something to clean it with where you got it piercer if it gets infected go to the doctors he will give you antibiotics for it you should clean all new bars the first time you put them in i was a piercer

you foxy chick, i'd give it a sterilise eh.

you dont need to ...

i dont remember needing to steralise mine... but please remember that it might take longer than 6 weeks to heal... its not like your ears.

i was told to keep my bar in for 3 months before changing and even then i had to go back to the shop to check it was healed before they changed it for me.. and showed me how to do it.

I had my belly button done 4yrs ago, and when i change the bar i always sterilise the one im putting in. You dont want to get an infection in it.

If all goes well, it should be healed by that time so as long as the bar is clean that should be fine. When I got mine done (about 10 years ago) jeans were not low cut like they are now so I can remember my jeans pulling and tugging on the piercing....OUCH! It took forever to heal for this reason! It finally did, and I still wear jewelry in it even if I'm old. :)

Just put the new one in some salty boiling water for a couple of mins and it'll be fine.
I have a five millimetre thick, twenty millimetre diameter, ultra-violet glow ring in my bellybutton.
A bit wacky I know, but it looks cool.

just leave it alone. and just clean it

yes you definitely should sterelize the new one- just in some boiling water with salt. I found salavon spray was amazing when i had my belly button pierced id advise using that on your belly when you take out the piercing stud and while its healing. Also use it on the new bar before you put it in. You should always sterellise a new bar before you put it in even when its completely healed- i always do this and have never had problems and ive had my belly button pierced for 7 years now. Make sure you sterillise the area with salt water or something like savalon spray every day while its healing so you dont get any nasty problems. Good luck & take care x

My advice? Leave the original barbell in for six months and continue treating it the way the piercer advised, even if it feels healed up.

You should ALWAYS sterilize any jewelry before you put it into your body no matter how old the piercing may be. Navel piercing don't need a lot to become infected, even when they are old.

Always sterilize any bars/jewerly you want to put in, this cuts down on the bacteria, etc. that is present. My recommendation (takes 30 secs): take a q-tip, dip it in rubbing alcohol, and rub the q-tip along the post of your jewelry.

use an antibacterial soap for your belly, and use betadine, or something like that to steralize it. i would go back to the guy who pierced it, like the other person said, have it changed for you and let them give their recommedations on changing etc.
had mine done 8 yrs ago. still love it! took forever to heal and i had to use betadine for it, wore an apron for work and kept catching on it. ouch! beware of infection! also, to help it heal, my tattoo guy told me to use SEA salt on it, just get a small CLEAN cup and warm water adn just a bit of the sea salt and let it soak on there for a while. clean the edges with some of the sal t and water on a q-tip.

You have nothing to lose by sterilizing it.

Yes, you should.
Although, you should leave it longer than 6 weeks before you change it.

I didn't...but if u feel u need to go ahead...
