How can we stop the light bulb change from happening?!

Question: So this article states that the US will phase out the standard light bulb ny the year 2012. Why are they doing this? Dont they realize that the oh so environmentaly friendly bulbs cause more damage than good. It takes more electricity to create the bulbs than the old standard ones and they are bad for the environment when they are thrown away. Not to mention the health problems that people will have. I can't use them because they give me severe headaches. It is a horrible light for your eyes. Will it end up with me getting a prescription for the old standard bulb? I better stock up because there is no way I will put up with headaches for a lightbulb! Are there any normal people left out there that know the hazards of these new bulbs?

I agree with you.
I actually tried to make the switch to compact fluorescents a couple of years ago to save energy, but like you, I was getting headaches, as was my wife. We've switched back in most places in the house, although I've left a couple of the double-bulb fixtures with one incandescent and one fluorescent bulb.
Another thing I don't like is that there's a delay for the light to come on, and then it takes a minute or two for them to reach full brightness. When I want light, I want it right away!
You mention that you might need a doctor's prescription for regular bulbs. I wouldn't be surprised if some people sue under the Americans with Disabilities Act to be allowed to get those bulbs for just the reasons you cited!

I agree I have heard they have mercury in them and that is really bad

There's no way to stop it. It's a good change, even the article you provided supports it. If you have trouble with the new bluer light, get a full spectrum CFL. It is better for your eyes and causes less glare.

All light bulbs have mercury in them, but the incandescent bulbs have much more (the article says 50 times as much).

I have several daylight type lamps, the new type, and they are wonderful. Great light, low cost to run, but yes, expensive initially. Just like being outside on a sunny day.

Im buying them by the bulk now. And even looking into actually making the old ones. So I can make them my self. The new stupid flux capacitor bulbs suck so much. They use twice the energy, burn out faster, and cost more as proven in actual studies vs. leftist studies like the global warming ones which they leave out the natural greenhouse gases. Be prepared stock up and if need be fight!
