It is possible that you woke up right from REM sleep. So you are dreaming, wake up and your body is still paralyzed. It's quite scary and can happen sometimes. When you google "waking up during REM" you get a number of pages on the subject, like this site here http://www.csicop.org/doubtandabout/slee...

Though I do believe in ghosts, it sounds like you might have been having a mild epileptic seizure, some of which are preceded by imagining hearing voices or other unidentifiable sounds. Worth looking into. Good luck! :-)

Hey,
I haven't experience it myself but I did a lot of reading about the kind of thing you experienced.
You had whats called sleep paralysis its actually more common than you might think.

A quick check on wikipedia says this info:

"Sleep paralysis is a condition characterized by temporary paralysis of the body shortly after waking up (known as hypnopompic paralysis) or, less often, shortly before falling asleep (known as hypnagogic paralysis).[1]
Physiologically, it is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the bodily paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully aware, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by hypnagogic hallucinations."

So the voice was a hypnagogic hallucination and the paraysis was from exiting rem state.

I recommend looking up OOBE's or Astral Projection for some interesting info about stuff related to this kind of thing!

It's called sleep paralysis
it happens every time you fall asleep whether you consiouslly realize it or not.
It is kind of scary, but if it ever happens again really try to concentrate on either wiggling your toes and moving up from your feet or rolling to the side and eventually it will stop (you either fall asleep fully or wake up)
your friend sounds like quite the character haha
