Biopsy on jaw cyst?!

Question: I'm having a biopsy done tomorrow on a cyst that is on my jaw. Has anyone had one before? Does it hurt? What exactly do they do? I'm going to be sedated but I'm terribly nervous and I hate needles so I'm freaking out a little.

I've never had a jaw biopsy but I have had a lung biopsy and I'll tell you this, a lung biopsy is most likely more painful than a jaw one, all you can try to do is relax, as stupid as it sounds, you may not like needles but just think at the end of this you'll have a diagnosis that you can then treat and it will be a one off thing. Good luck with the surgery

Wish you all the best!!!!!!!!

if you want!!!!

u should b fine if ur sedated

The doctor will numb your jaw where he is going to take the biopsy from. (he may put you to sleep if you ask or if he thinks it is necessary) Then he will take a small sample or two of the cyst and put it in a container to be examined. The only thing that will hurt at the time is the needle he numbs it with unless you are sedated with medication through an IV, then getting the IV in will hurt. I had my right jaw operated on. They removed all my back teeth, put me to sleep, sliced open my jaw inside my mouth and sliced off a thin strip of my jawbone trying to determine if I had osteomylitis. I did not even though that is what the oral surgeon said I had until after the surgery. Then he said there was no sign of osteomylitis. I have had horrible jaw pain for 9-10 years and they now tell me I have Eagle's Syndrome for which there is no cure. Your biopsy will be a breeze compared to having surgery. I know you are afraid but don't be, at least you will know what you have and they will know how to treat it. good luck
