Is drinking liqour or smoking weed or cigarettes bad when breastfeeding?!

Question: obviously smoking weed would be bad...it's illegal and you could loose your child. Smoking not good either, legal but do you really want to do that while breast feeding. Now alcohol....drinking too much is bad. But, if you need to relax, a small amount (like a glass of wine) will not hurt. I know, it's not PC anymore. But that is what doctors used to tell us, especially new mothers.

oh no of course not, start 'em young........

<end sarcasm>

I hope this is a joke

yes!

It can cause real harm to your baby - both short and long term. Don't do it !!!

Are you related to my wife? You sound like one of my in-laws.

You're joking, right?

Yeah, it's bad.

of course it is bad for you. the drugs in your system will obvious get in to your milk. besides other things.

You need to ask this? You know the answer or you wouldn't be asking.

Anything you put in your body while breastfeeding, the child gets. You sound way to young to be having children

LIGHT IT UP BABY !!!!!!!!!! LEZZZ PARTAAAA !!!

yes.........escially while breast feeding.....your child could have serious health issuses you should stop now before it is to late.......hopefully you or somebody hasn't done it yet....if so your child is is danger,......serious danger.......go to the doctor.....

I would say that is the stupidest thing you could ever do your baby. You might as well just shoot your kid cause you are killing him/her everytime you breast feed.

Umm duh of course its bad!! It can contaminate your baby with all that bad stuff of the weed and cigarettes...please stop!

Wow some one is special

Yes all of the above! Please quit ASAP!

Here are the plain facts:
1) The mother "feeds" the prenatal child through the placenta. The placenta is rather selective in what it passes through to the baby. That is why, while the mother can get sick from a germ or a virus, the baby does not get it. (This is even true for postnatal, breast-feeding babies. The antibodies that the mother's system generates go to the baby *first* -- a real bonus of breastfeeding over formula.)
2) Certain chemicals pass through to the child regardless of the placenta's filtering. These are mostly aromatics like alcohol, medications (drugs), and some foods. I do not know the reason that they are passed other than to keep a balance in fluids or to train the baby's system to be able to handle the chemicals.
3) Fetal-alcohol syndrome is one of the most prevalent and sad states that a child coming into this world should have to bear. The child may eventually overcome other drugs like cocaine, but fetal alcohol syndrome is permanent brain, heart, and liver damage. When a mother takes drugs or alcohol during the pregnancy, the baby becomes addicted.
4) Cigarettes' nicotine is, perhaps, the most addictive drug.

To all those who love God's most beloved creations: I implore to care for them or give them up to those who can love them.

of course it is! anything you smoke or drink the baby gets when you breast feed
