Problem with a tongue piercing.?!

Question: I've had this piercing for about a month now, it's a ten guage piercing and I have been doing alot of stuff to take care of it (mouthwash, saltwater, etc...) and the swelling has barely gone down.

It's a 14 guage piercing and the swelling was supposed to go down in three weeks according to the piercer, I know everyone is different and stuff and the swelling has gone down to a point where it is no longer a problem, I can talk, eat and drink normally but whenever I do something like stick my tongue out or even straighten my tongue inside my mouth it still looks huge.

I'm thinking I need to get my frenulum cut because that may be the problem but before I do anything I would like some advise on lowering the swelling.

Oh and do you have to be 18-21 to get a frenulum cut? Because I am not 18 and most things like this you need to be 18 to do.

You may want to ask your piercer about switching you to another jewlery material. You may be allergic to surgical steel (or at least the piece you have in now). After a month you should be safe to switch to something like PTFE which is a type of plastic. It is non-porous and can be cut to a length to fit your tongue.

My tongue took a while to settle back down surrounding the piercing itself. The inital nightmare swelling went down in 5 days and most of the rest was gone in a couple of weeks, but the area around the bar remained raised for a little while after that.

If you didn't need your frenulum cut before the tongue ring, then it is the tongue ring that needs to go. Altering your mouth to suit your piercing is absolutely backwards. I don't know any doctors who would cut a frenulum that wasn't impeeding your function before the piercing. They would just insist you take the piercing out.

If your tongue is still acting up, then see another piercer. Have them take a look at your piercing and see if they feel it is properly placed. If they don't think it is lined up correctly, consider taking it out and try again. It would suck to have to go through all of this just to re-do it, but at least it would heal correctly the second time.

mine took about 10 days. keep using the listerene and use the heck out of it. it will go down, just give it time. also check for discharge. if you have any, take the post out and go to the doctor. you will be fine. time is the key. you might just be a little hipersensitive to the whole thing. also try a sterling silver post or plastic posts (spencers.com) you might be alergic to the posts used. sergical steel sometimes causes alergic reactions.
Hope this helps!

Ive just got a normal stud in my tongue, it took about 6 weeks for the swelling to go down!

I would assume having a 14 guage would take longer...

If your eating hot foods that could annoy it more as well and saltwater I would say isnt good for your mouth...

I would often eat alot of ice to help soothe the swelling as well as an antiseptic mouth wash not just a normal one cause that would burn...

Hope this helps some :)
