Is this a sleeping disorder?!


Question: What are some reasons that would make it difficult to awaken in the morning?
No matter what time I go to sleep, or how many hours of sleep I get (and I get enough most of the time), I still can't get up in time. I snooz till the last minute, even though I had 7 to 9 hours sleep. My mind seems to play tricks on me, and I shut off the alarm, or dream I woke up, or I tell myself I don't have to be on time. Not surprising I've lost plenty a job, but I seem wired this way.

Been tested for anemia and diabeties, both negative.

It might be a symptom of a psychological problem, like depression. Also, you might not feel rested because of a sleep problem like sleep apnea. It sounds like a health examination is in order.

it is due to depression most times....
i had the same issue and as i think back of it i just find out that the time i had this i wasnt very happy ...

  • Go get a sleep analysis done. That's the only way to be sure. Talk to your doctor about it.

    no it is not any disorder,do not worry, it normal for healthy response.

    actually the more hours of sleep you get can make it harder to wake up though lots of sleep isnt a bad thing, its hard for everyone to get up in the morning, just get used to forcing yourself to get up and try excercising or stretching right when you wake up so you will stay up.

    It doesn't much matter if you are labelled with a problem, if it is making your life harder than you want it to be, or if you can't manage the problem, then you want to seek help.

    I have suffered with this problem, turned out that not only was I depressed, I had a hearing problem causing me to oversleep.

    There are things called sleep studies where you camp out there, with people observing you and monitoring your body, they may be able to help you figure out the problem. Usually this is in conjunction with trials for a new medicine. If you are interested, talk to your doctor, or ask abou it at your nearest research hospital.

    One thing to try is getting yourself on a schedule. Our sleep patterns are greatly affected by routine.

    You also may want to look at your emotional health...is there just no good reason to get out of bed? Or is there something you dread every day that you are trying to escape from sleeping?? Trying to work it from that angle may help you. Related, try to give yourself the most pleasant wakeup routine possible. Plenty of time, a tasty breakfast, a little morning TV or music or something to give you an incentive to wake up.

    Do you hear the alarm? Do you need to keep several alarms and switch them up from time to time so they stay fresh?

    If all else fails, it certainly isn't the best solution, but maybe you need a human wakeup, someone to come in and sit by the bed and talk to you or nudge you until you are alert enough to tell them that you are up for the day.

    You also may be on the wrong "clock" for your body. If you are a night person, maybe you should get a job where you work nights. I work second shift now (evenings) and I don't have much problem anymore...my whole day swings more in line with my own body clock. I can sleep however long I want and often times I find that when I wake in the morning, it's much more pleasant and easy because I know I start out the day with free time instead of a scramble to get ready for work.

    Keep the alarm clock across the room, so you HAVE to get up to turn it off. Then go jump in the shower, or grab a cup of coffee, or eat a pop tart! Whatever you like to do, and have a big warm robe ready to put on!!
