My mother who is almost completely deaf now says that it is your ear drum screaming for help. Go to your doctor and get it checked out. It may just be a blockage from built up wax but your hearing is nothing to mess around with.

You need to be checked to make sure there's no risk of you going deaf, or having any other problem. You might hear ringing in your ears for the rest of your life, however.
