What does an occupational therapist do, and what is their typical day like?!

Question: They teach people who have had strokes how to eat again, and how to handle other objects again. They also work with disabled children teaching them the same sorts of things with their hands. Like how to write and turn pages.

At the end of the day there's a lot of paperwork, but it's a very rewarding job. Go for it!!

A OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST BASICALLY WORKS WITH THE UPPER BODY, THE ARMS, HANDS, FINGERS TO CHECK THEIR RANGE OF MOTION, IN CHILDREN WHO ARE DISABLED, SO THE PATIENT CAN HAVE A INCREASED RANGE OF MOTION. A PHYSICALTHERAPIST DOES THE SAME WITH THEIR PATIENTS EXCEPT WITH THE LEGS.

Actually, an occupational therapist deals with a person's ability to do daily activities such as feeding, typing, or getting out of bed. They can also design/prescribe assistive devices such as splints or braces. Many times they will deal with the hands.

Physical Therapists deal more with the physical rehabilitation of muscles and joints. They work on a patient's range of motion, muscle strength, & balance, just to name a few. They deal with ALL joints of the body.

In other words

OT = help to restore ability to do daily activities
PT = help to restore muscular and joint function (eg strength & ROM)
