To PREVENT colds, take 1000 mgs of Vitamin C a day. Also take a multi-vitamin like a generic Centrum. Drink OJ and Cranberry Juice and Green tea (really good with honey) and LOTS OF WATER.
If you already have a cold, try Zicam, Airbornne, or Cold MD Rapid Tabs. They all work great! For coughs, CEPACOL Spray is new, and one spray does the trick. Robitussin lozenges are good too.
If you live in cold weather, keep your neck covered with scarves. Always stay bundled up and warm and cozy.
Those tips should help you. Good luck, Kiddo!! :)

Get a humidifier in your room. It works for me, my throat gets dry a lot, causing it to be sore. You should also try and eat healthier foods, your body needs nutrition. Not junk. Look for foods with healthy vitamins. For sore throats, you can drink tea or any sort of hot liquids to take away some pain. Best advice is to just rest, don't force your body to do anything above its limits.

Good Luck!

Oh gosh. :( I have a cold right now too and it just feels HORRIBLE. It's almost Christmas in 2 days and I'm stuck with a cold, too. I suggest GETTING PLENTY OF REST and try to sleep in as much as possible. Also, drink lots of warm water (as hot as you can take it) and blow your nose (don't suck it up).

The best way to avoid colds: wash your hands frequently. I kid you not; touching something contaminated, then touching your food or your face is the most common way to transmit a cold. Wash your hands before eating, and after shaking hands or handling public items; also try to minimize touching your face (eyes, nose, mouth particularly). You might be surprised how often you rub your eyes or touch your nose without thinking.

Once you have one -- the traditional methods to help are simply fluids and rest. Orange juice and chicken noodle soup are favorites -- OJ has vitamin C, and chicken noodle soup has a mix of nutrients, as well as salt to slightly reduce any throat swelling and help you retain some of that fluid for your body's use, and a little fat to coat and soothe your throat. Steam can help soothe irritated nasal passages (not hot! you don't want to scald your poor nose!) so a humidifier or hot shower can also help. Honey also soothes a sore throat and cough -- actually a recent study showed that coughing kids had more improvement in their coughs when given honey, than some over the counter medicines. Tea with honey is often used for this purpose.
